Twister is the quintessential '90s popcorn flick. Action-packed, tightly paced, and featuring a meticulously crafted script, cardboard characters, and a predictable storyline, this disaster epic shines with its still-impressive visuals, even if it lacks the thematic power of similar genre films.
TWISTER – 4K Unboxing & Review!
Released on the eve of one of the most impressive summers in theaters, Twister held its own against the likes of Independence Day , Mission: Impossible , The Rock , and The Nutty Professor , earning a staggering $241.7 million to become the second highest-grossing film of the year. Curiously, despite its high ratings, a sequel never materialized, leaving the film a rare one-hit wonder. Of course, Hollywood eventually returned to the property, resulting in this week’s legacy sequel Twisters , starring Glen Powell.
That's why Warner Bros. saw fit to gift fans with a solid 4K edition of the 1996 blockbuster. Is it worth the purchase, especially if you already own the 2008 Blu-ray? Read on to find out.
The late Bill Paxton and Helen Hunt star as storm chasers/ex-lovers experimenting with new equipment designed to amplify tornado warnings. Starring Cary Elwes, Philip Seymour Hoffman and Jami Getz, Twister doesn’t win any points for exploring the human condition, but it is a literal thrill ride. Director Jan de Bont brings the same kinetic energy to the film as Speed, delivering the heart-pounding thrills that summer audiences crave. It’s an absolute blast.
