Netflix has released the trailer for the highly anticipated film adaptation of Uglies.

Uglies is based on the book by Scott Westerfeld and stars Joey King as Tally Youngblood, Chase Stokes as Peris, Keith Powers as David, Brianne Tju as Shay and Laverne Cox as Dr. Cable.

Set in the futuristic world of Westerfeld, Uglies follows King’s Tally as she counts down the days until she can undergo a cosmetic procedure that all townspeople undergo at the age of 16, transforming their faces and bodies into flawless, model-like bodies. This is all Tally has known her entire life, until a new friend walks out on her, exposing Tally to a different way of life. Torn between Shay and her now beautiful best friend Peris, who is waiting for her in the town after his surgery, Tally must choose between everything she’s ever known and a form of society that will challenge everything she believes in.

“My whole life I wanted to be beautiful,” King says at the beginning of the clip, as a Siri-like voice wakes her in her dystopian dorm room. “I thought it would change everything. I hope it still does.”
