Netflix has shared the Uglies trailer for its upcoming dystopian coming-of-age thriller based on Scott Westerfeld's 2005 sci-fi novel of the same name. The film, starring Joey King, is set to stream on Friday, September 13.

"In a futuristic world that mandates cosmetic surgery at 16, Tally is eager to fit in with the rest of society," the synopsis reads. "But when a friend runs away, Tally embarks on a journey to save her that turns everything she thought she wanted upside down."

The trailer takes viewers to a distant future where the government forces every 16-year-old citizen to undergo plastic surgery to maintain society's beauty standards. It introduces King as Tally, who joins a group of rebels called The Smokes who take on the powerful people who try to control their bodies and lives.
