Tracy McMillan Talks New Series 'Unprisoned' and the Stigma Around Divorce
For Tracy McMillan, the creator of UnPrisoned, the goal of Season 2 of the Hulu and Onyx Collective series was to move the Alexander family from fracture to healing.
In season 1 of the comedy series, Edwin Alexander (Delroy Lindo) was released from prison after serving a 17-year sentence for drug trafficking and moved in with his daughter Paige (Kerry Washington), a therapist and social media influencer. Paige had reservations about letting her father be around her teenage son, Finneas (Faly Rakotohavana), but they ultimately decided to do it anyway so her father would have the best chance of staying out of prison. The series is based on McMillan's life experiences.
“Season 1 was very similar to when my dad first got out of prison and we met outside the locks and the bars and the guards and the guns — outside of prison, which was very different than how I had known him for most of my life,” McMillan told TheWrap. “Meeting him outside of prison was a paradigm shift.”
