Based on the life of creator Tracy McMillan, the series follows Paige Alexander (Kerry Washington) as she welcomes her father Edwin (Delroy Lindo) back into her life after he is released from a 17-year prison sentence for drug trafficking. The final season began on Edwin's release day, and the story continued as Paige decided to bring him to live with her and her teenage son, Finneas (Faly Rakotohavana).
