An update reports that filming has wrapped on 28 Years Later, the highly anticipated sequel to 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later. Oscar-winning filmmaker Danny Boyle, who directed the first film and served as an executive producer on the second, has returned to helm 28 Years Later. Cillian Murphy, who won the Academy Award for Best Actor for his performance as the title character in Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer, has also returned to the post-apocalyptic film series, reprising his role as Jim from the first film.

On Monday, July 29, it was reported that filming had wrapped on Danny Boyle's 28 Years Later. Production on the film is set to begin in May 2024, with filming reportedly taking place in various parts of the United Kingdom, including London; Cheddar Gorge, Somerset; Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Tyne & Wear; Northumberland; Kielder Forest, Hexham; and Priddy, Somerset.
In addition to Boyle and Murphy, Alex Garland, the screenwriter of the first film and executive producer of the second, also co-wrote the script for 28 Years Later with Boyle.
Talks about a third film have been going on since 2007, but the project has been repeatedly delayed. The film officially went into development in January 2024. In addition to Murphy, the cast of 28 Years Later includes Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jodie Comer, Ralph Fiennes, Jack O'Connell, Erin Kellyman, and Edvin Ryding. The film is expected to hit theaters on June 20, 2025.
