US, Canadian fighter jets intercept Russian, Chinese bombers near Alaska
“NORAD detected, tracked, and intercepted two Russian TU-95 and two PRC H-6 military aircraft operating in the Alaska Air Defense Identification Zone,” the report said.
The zone is a perimeter within which air traffic outside the boundary of national airspace is monitored to provide additional response time in the event of enemy action.
Intercepting Russian aircraft, where they come into visual or electronic contact with American or Canadian aircraft, is a relatively common occurrence in this area.
