The US-Taiwan Trade Initiative for the 21st Century aims to streamline customs controls, improve regulatory procedures and introduce anti-corruption measures.
After the House of Representatives approved the bill on Wednesday, it now goes to the Senate, the upper chamber of the U.S. Congress, where it is expected to be ratified.
China said on Thursday the move “seriously violates the US commitment to maintain only unofficial relations with Taiwan”.
