NBA's Warner Bros. Discovery is set to match Amazon's new basketball rights deal, which is reportedly worth close to $1.8 billion, Deadline has learned.
Warner Bros. Discovery offers to match Amazon's bid for NBA rights
WBD’s exclusive negotiating window with the league ended in April without an agreement, and while talks have continued, the NBA reportedly agreed to terms on three other partners, incumbents Disney/ESPN and NBCUniversal, and Amazon Prime Video. The 11-year deals, said to be worth a total of about $76 billion, will begin after the 2024-25 season.
While he did not publicly confirm the names, commissioner Adam Silver said at a press conference last night that the league has approved “this phase of those media proposals.”
"But as you know, there are other rights that need to be worked out with existing partners. I'll say right now that there's a fair amount that I can't discuss yet on those media deals because they're not finalized," he continued, certainly referring to WBD, which has matching rights baked into its current contract.
