[TRAILER] – TO A LAND UNKNOWN by Mahdi Fleifel – Directors' Fortnight
Chicago-based Watermelon Pictures has acquired North American distribution rights to Danish-Palestinian screenwriter-director Mahdi Fleifel's "To a Land Unknown," which premiered to critical acclaim at Directors' Fortnight in Cannes.
Sold by Salaud Morisset, “To a Land Unknown” saw a P&I screening on Friday in Toronto, where it makes its North American premiere at Toronto’s Centrepiece showcase, an impressive double whammy for Salaud Morisset with a second Centrepiece title, “Under the Volcano,” which it also represents.
In an optimistic review from Variety , she said: Based on the spirit of "bicycle thieves," "To a Land Unknown" is about two cousins, Chatila and Reda, who grew up in a Palestinian refugee camp in Lebanon. Now stuck in a slum in Athens, they try to scrape together—or scam—money to get fake passports to get to Germany. When Reda blows their savings on his opiate addiction, Chatila hatches a plan for a dangerous heist.
