Dan Fernandez, chairman of the House Committee on Public Order and Safety and representative of the city of Santa Rosa, said he believes it is excessive to deploy more than 400 soldiers to protect Vice President Sara Duterte.

In a press conference on Wednesday, Fernandez was asked about reports that the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) had deployed more than 400 soldiers to protect Duterte, apart from the police personnel also seconded to her.
According to Fernandez, based on data, there are 150,000 AFP employees, while of the country's 7,000 islands, 2,000 are inhabited.
“Out of 2,000 inhabitants lived tao, di ba, on mayroon tayong 150,000 on sundalo, kung i-spread out on 2,000 islands mayroon tayong 75 soldiers on naka-assign lamang sa bawat isla,” he explained.
