The Borderlands movie has been getting negative reviews, and you’re probably wondering what the IP’s owner thinks about the ordeal. Gearbox created Borderlands, but until recently it was owned by Embracer Group. However, in a recent restructuring, Embracer sold Gearbox to Take-Two Interactive, and the deal was finalized on June 12, 2024, just in time for the company to enjoy the hot takes on the Borderlands movie. Surprisingly, the company has already commented on the situation; you can read what it had to say below.
Borderlands movie is terrible
Speaking to IGN, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick asked audiences to keep an open mind despite the Borderlands film's poor reception from critics:
"Let's give the film a chance. There's a lot of people working hard on it. The underlying intellectual property is phenomenal, the cast is great, I really like the look and feel. Let's see what the audience thinks."
However, when asked if the film's potential failure would impact Take-Two's success, Zelnick responded, “[…] no, the film's performance would not have a financial impact on us or the franchise in any way.”
