Bella Hadid Pulled From Adidas Campaign: Controversy Explained
The reissue of Adidas' iconic SL 72 running sneaker has stirred up a lot of controversy due to its latest advertising campaign starring Bella Hadid. Some groups have voiced strong objections and criticized the campaign for what they see as political insensitivity. This backlash has left many of Hadid's fans concerned and curious about the issue. Here are all the details surrounding the controversy.
Earlier this month, Adidas partnered with Bella Hadid to re-release their SL 72 running sneaker. Originally introduced during the 1972 Munich Olympics, the campaign was quickly met with widespread backlash. The SL 72 campaign coincided with the 52nd anniversary of the Munich Games, a tragic event that saw 11 Israeli athletes and coaches killed by Palestinian terrorists. While the campaign made no mention of the incident, the American Jewish Committee did condemn Hadid’s involvement due to her support for Palestinian relief efforts in Gaza during the ongoing conflict with Israel.
Adidas has since apologized for the campaign and has indicated that it will review the campaign to take into account political and historical sensitivities.
