A major gun-focused YouTube channel has recently found itself in a bit of a controversy, through no fault of its own. Thomas Matthew Crooks, the terrorist killed in the Trump shooting, died wearing a “Demolitia” shirt promoting Demolition Ranch, one of the largest gun-focused channels (known to fans as “guntubers”) on the platform. Unfortunately, Demolition Ranch owner Matt Carriker has found himself in a situation where some believe he bears some blame for Crooks’ actions.
Trump's shooter was wearing my shirt…
When Thomas Matthew Crooks was murdered, he was wearing a T-shirt with the word "Demolitia" on it, according to Newsweek. That's what the fan base of the YouTube channel Demolition Ranch calls itself. The shirt resembles similar official merchandise that can be purchased on the Bunker Branding Co. website, along with other Demolition Ranch-branded items.
Some social media pundits have attempted to link Crooks’ actions to Demolition Ranch’s pro-gun message. Of course, that’s about as logical as blaming Jodie Foster for John Hinckley Jr. shooting Ronald Reagan. No connection between Carriker and Crooks other than the shirt has been established. It also remains to be confirmed whether Crooks purchased the shirt from Bunker Branding, received the shirt as a gift, purchased it through a third party, or even watched the channel regularly.
Last night was a madhouse… I have news stations calling me asking if I ever spoke to the shooter… what… the… hell
