There are few things more frustrating for a TV viewer than having your favorite show end with not just a few loose ends, but a massive cliffhanger. That was the case for more than a few canceled shows from the 2023-2024 TV season.
Marcia Gay Harden and Skylar Astin React to the Final Episode of 'Help Me Todd'
The good news? For some of those cliffhangers, we got the scoop on what would have happened if the show had been renewed, as the creative teams behind those shows began planning; while in some cases they were able to pull off a series vs. season finale ending, others were not. Star Trek: Discovery, for example, was able to go back and film an epilogue that revealed the future of not only the show, but also its main character. And So Help Me creator Todd had the rest of the series (five more seasons!) planned out, and he shared those plans with TV Insider.
Scroll down and we take a look at what we know about what would have happened to these and other canceled TV shows from the 2023-2024 season.
An early version of the finale, which TV Insider spoke to star Paula Newsome about, introduced a new serial killer who would have presumably played a major role in a fourth season of the CBS drama. Unfortunately, the series was canceled, leaving fans with only a minor cliffhanger: what the future holds for Josh (Matt Lauria) and Allie (Mandeep Dhillon). The two seemed poised to perhaps finally get together, and Newsome admitted that she doesn't think Max would necessarily have been a fan of that workplace romance. "Really, how do you do that? You know what I mean? They always talk about the lawyer representing himself, who has a dummy client. So how do you separate your heart from your head? But that's just more grease for the wheels in CSI: Vegas land," she said. And if that was in fact what we saw from Max's reaction to the two getting together in a fourth season, would that have led to more tension between Max and Josh and Max and Allie?
