Stephen Lawrence – What Happened? What Went Wrong? | BBC
Three decades after the brutal murder of Stephen Lawrence, his body is finally being brought back to the UK from Jamaica. Reports suggest that the family decided to retrieve the body after photos of his grave surfaced on social media. The gruesome murder took place in 1993 as Lawrence waited for a bus in south-east London. The investigation revealed that a group of white men murdered him while he was waiting for the bus. His family then decided to bury his body in Jamaica so that he could be in peace.
According to BBC, Stephen Lawrence lived with his family and wanted to become an architect. He studied for his A-levels. However, he was unable to fulfill his dream and was brutally murdered by a group of white men. His family, who buried him in Jamaica, recently shared their disappointment over the photos of Lawrence's grave that circulated on social media. In a statement to Reuters, Lawrence's mother expressed her sadness over the photos of her son's grave, and further expressed the family's disappointment when they saw the images on social media.
That's why they decided to keep Lawrence's body close to the family. Reuters quoted her statement as saying: "After 31 years, we have decided as a family that we want to take Stephen home to be closer to us."
