Deadpool & Wolverine is one of the most cameo-heavy films of recent years, marking the return of characters like Chris Evans' Johnny Storm / Human Torch, Wesley Snipes' Blade, and Jennifer Garner's Elektra Natchios. However, Ryan Reynolds recently revealed that other Fantastic Four characters, including those from the 2015 Fantastic Four film (often known by its stylized title "Fant4stic"), almost made a cameo appearance in Deadpool & Wolverine.
DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE Alternate Ending & Deleted Scenes, Cameos Overview
Reynolds revealed in a recent interview that while there was discussion about who would be included in the long list of cameos in Deadpool & Wolverine, those characters were ultimately cut due to the impact Evans' Human Torch would already have on the story.
"Yeah, that was part of it," Reynolds told Collider. "But that way, you're never going to be misled with Chris Evans, you know, with him doing it and kind of having the license to enjoy it afterward, with Chris."
Additionally, Reynolds, who also co-wrote and produced the film, cited budgetary concerns as a reason. "You know, and we also tried to be mindful of the budget," he explained, noting that Deadpool & Wolverine was ultimately an R-rated project. "We tried to make the movie. We've always understood that it's an R-rated project, you know. It's not a blank check, and part of our responsibility is to repay the investment that they're making in us. So I never want to have a budget that I don't feel like I can make up for. And the more types of toys you start asking for and the more types of characters you want to license, the deeper you get into that kind of point of no return."
