Trump’s plane had to make an emergency landing in Montana today on its way to a rally. Given the bad luck his presidential campaign has had so far, it’s not hard to imagine something catastrophic happening when you hear that news. The reality of the situation, however, is relatively benign, as we’ll explain below.
Donald Trump's plane makes emergency landing in Montana, everything you need to know
According to local NBC affiliate KTVH, Trump's plane made an emergency landing in Billings, Montana, before a rally in Bozeman. His Boeing 757 had an unspecified mechanical problem and a second plane was deployed. Trump was able to board the second plane and complete the final leg of his journey to Bozeman unhindered.
Apparently the mechanical issue wasn’t critical, as Trump didn’t even mention it in a later video posted to Truth Social. After landing in Bozeman, Trump headed to the rally, where he was scheduled to speak at 8:00 PM MDT. There, he plans to endorse Montana GOP Senate candidate Tim Sheehy against incumbent Democrat Jon Tester. After leaving Montana, he plans to continue campaigning across the country in the coming days.
The seemingly minor mechanical hiccup comes amid a series of challenges facing Trump’s campaign, including the attempted assassination of the presidential candidate and the unusually large impact a certain meme has had on public perception of his VP pick, J.D. Vance. The issue was quickly resolved, however, allowing him to continue with his schedule without significant disruption. Such incidents, while not uncommon during campaign travel, often attract undue media attention due to Trump’s high-profile status.
