Y2K nostalgics, get ready: ByteDance may be getting into the music player business.
What is ByteDance? | CNBC Explains
The main question, however, is: why should we even bother?
Last week, Music Business Worldwide came across a U.S. patent for a “Method and apparatus for playing music” filed by TikTok parent company ByteDance in December of last year. The 20-page application shows diagrams of a device described as a “purpose application for playing music,” with a similar control layout and display to TikTok and its upcoming TikTok Music platform.
To millennials and older Gen Zers, this device might sound like an iPod Touch, one of the latest versions of Apple's groundbreaking music player, albeit one that presumably supports TikTok Music and includes a few interactive bells and whistles.
