During an investor meeting on Wednesday, Ubisoft announced it is delaying the release of “Assassin’s Creed Shadows” from November to February 2025, citing the weak performance of “Star Wars Outlaws” in August and lower-than-expected profits in the current quarter.
Delays are not uncommon for AAA games in this day and age. Large open-world franchises like the “Assassin’s Creed” games take a lot of time to fine-tune and test for bugs to meet graphical and player expectations.
Major strategic shifts are becoming the norm for AAA gaming. PlayStation announced ambitious plans in early 2022 to launch about a dozen live services by March 2026, but slashed that number by half a year later and canceled several titles, including online game “The Last of Us.”
