Will Verizon become the Netflix of streaming aggregators as it looks to solidify its competitive edge in the sector?
Verizon customers can now get 5 streaming services for $20
Not to be overstated, but the telco’s pole position in the aggregation game is starting to resemble Netflix’s notorious lead in subscription streaming. Last week, Verizon unveiled an expansion of its streaming bundle strategy with “myHome,” a program based on its mobile myPlan offering that lets customers bundle a discounted streaming subscription with home internet service.
In some ways, this is just Verizon's latest move to bundle SVODs with its telecom services, a growing trend in the streaming bundle space of late. But it also has the potential to further establish the company in the SVOD aggregation space, where it's largely unchallenged relative to its peers.
A Verizon press release announcing myHome noted that customers will be able to “manage even more entertainment subscriptions through +play,” the carrier’s virtual marketplace where customers can manage streaming and other monthly subscriptions.
