Rob Friedman's Ascendant Entertainment is developing a high school basketball drama series starring former players Melanie Page and Kellie R. Griffin, Variety exclusively reports.

The series is called "On the Line." The official description states that it will follow "the on- and off-court stories of female high school basketball players." Page is developing the series with Griffin, who will serve as showrunner. Alison Lani Genest, Ascendant's vice president of development, will oversee the series on behalf of the company. News of the series comes as women's basketball has seen a meteoric rise in popularity recently.
“As a proud father of four young women and a basketball dad myself, I know this is an arena filled with compelling stories and opportunities to watch together,” Friedman said. “Our focus isn’t on the coaches, it’s on the players — the young women and all the pressure and drama they deal with in their daily lives, balancing schoolwork, game play and relationships.”
Page was a star player at Maryland who dreamed of playing in the WNBA until a series of injuries cut her on-court career short. She turned her attention to filmmaking, starting as a production assistant on projects for ESPN, eventually working her way up to producing "Spike Lee's Lil' Joints." She recently directed branded content for Microsoft's WNBA partnerships and directed and produced a docuseries about rising basketball star Juju Watkins.
