The carnival is over
Brazilian Fernando Coimbra celebrates his return to the Brazilian film industry with the crime drama “Carnival is Over” (“Os enforcados”) and at the Toronto Film Festival (TIFF) where his acclaimed debut film “A Wolf at the Door” had its world premiere in 2013.
“Carnival” is Coimbra’s third feature film, the trailer of which debuts exclusively in Variety ahead of its world premiere on September 6 at TIFF. The film is produced by leading Brazilian producer Fabiano Gullane of Gullane Filmes, which is having a banner year with this taut drama, the animated feature “Noah’s Ark” and the highly anticipated Netflix series “Senna.”
After directing episodes of the international series “Narcos,” “Outcast” and “Perry Mason” and the feature film “Sand Castle,” starring Nicholas Hoult and Henry Cavill, Coimbra admits he was ready to come home. “I was eager to work in Brazil again, to speak in my own language about what I know deep inside and live every day,” said Coimbra, who also wrote the feature film.
