Bicol Saro Party Rep. Brian Raymund Yamsuan has filed a measure to “future-proof” learning materials in public schools to solve the longstanding problem of inadequate textbooks for students.

Yamsuan filed Bill 10734, aimed at strengthening the partnership between the Department of Education (DepEd) and the National Book Development Board (NBDB) to jointly formulate and implement a national plan for textbooks and learning materials.
“I think the problem of public school students can be solved by looking at the textbooks. It may be that you can earn more by doing subjects with math, science with reading, with more test scores and with more subjects in Filipino,” Yamsuan said.
The solon cited the findings of the 2022 Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA), which showed that Filipino students continue to be among the weakest in mathematics, reading and science, and even in creative thinking skills, among students from 81 countries that participated in the global survey.
