Bicol Saro Party Rep. Brian Yamsuan urged local government units (LGUs), in coordination with the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), to conduct periodic inspections of buildings to prevent a recurrence of last week's Binondo building fire that killed 11 people.

At the same time, Yamsuan urged swift approval of the proposed new construction law, which aims to repeal the outdated national building code and impose stricter measures on the design, construction and maintenance of buildings to ensure the safety of residents from fire and other hazards.
“Napakalungkot is one of the most important things that has to do with the fact that it is possible to start sharing time. Hindi dapat ipagwalambahala ng kaligtasan lalo na pagdating sa pagpapatayo ng anumang istruktura,” said Yamsuan, a former deputy secretary of the Department of the Interior and Local Government.
According to Yamsuan, the Binondo fire is one of the deadliest in Metro Manila since the Kentex plant fire in Valenzuela City that killed 74 people in 2015.
