Bicol Saro Party Rep. Brian Yamsuan has filed a measure seeking to establish government-run community centers to help the elderly and people with disabilities find jobs and access training opportunities to improve their skills.
The government will create 610,000 jobs for seniors in 2019 to help the socially inactive elderly population
According to Yamsuan, Bill 10630 is intended to help seniors and people with disabilities overcome obstacles they face in seeking employment, including difficulty finding suitable job opportunities, prejudice against them based on physical ability and age, and inadequate training.
“If we have the opportunity to get seniors into PWD, it may be that we can solve a lot of the problems. After analyzing the results that we can see in making a book, it can be said that gobyerno sila lalapit para matulungan sila sa prose ng paghanap ng trabaho,” Yamsuan said.
Under the bill, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) is mandated to establish, operate and maintain, upon request of local government units (LGUs), offices in state capitals, major cities and other strategic areas that will assist persons with disabilities and the elderly in finding employment. These offices will be called Local Centers for Inclusive Employment (LCIEs).
